We invite you to take a few minutes to learn about our organization, our mission as music teachers, as well as what is required by way of experience and education to become a member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association (ORMTA).

CHOOSING THE RIGHT TEACHER


Points to consider in selecting a teacher include:

To be a member of the Association, one must hold a degree or diploma from a recognized university or conservatory or meet the necessary qualifications set down by the registering province, thus ensuring a high level of training and a commitment to professionalism.

The registered Music Teachers’ association is a Canada-wide federation encompassing ten provinces with over 3,200 members. A Registered Music Teacher is a member of the provincial association, which is affiliated with the national association Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Associations(CFMTA).

The aim of CFMTA is to encourage the highest calibre of music education possible and to promote high standards of music in each community.

A good foundation is essential to the study of any art or science. It is therefore, especially important to the beginning student have the best  possible teacher.

The Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association was founded in 1885,

re-established in 1936 and incorporated in 1946
