Beth was first introduced to the piano at age 5 playing with her Grandpa who taught her to chord on the family player piano. Her father later started to teach her how to read music. She received her first formal lesson at age 11 with Mrs. Gertrude Stradz who led her through to Grade 8 at age 18.  She then continued with Mrs. Bertha Gerber, achieving her Grade 9 Piano and studied advanced theory with Mr. Brian McDowell.


Beth was also very active during her junior and high school years as a clarinetist in her school band. Beth moved to Toronto where she continued her music studies with Ms. Ruth Kazdan and also started her teaching career in a studio at a Yamaha Store on Victoria Park Ave.


In 1980 she moved back to the North Bay area where she completed her Grade 10 Piano with Ona Beresnevicius. While Beth continued to teach at home she wrote her Piano Pedagogy Exam in 1989 under the guidance of Mrs. Elsa Tafel and completed her Teacher’s ARCT in June of 1996 with Mrs. Lynda Rehder-Kennedy.


Beth joined the North Bay Branch of ORMTA in 1994 (pre-diploma) and has been actively involved, holding executive positions as Secretary, President 1998-2000 and again 2009 to 2011 As well, she served as Zone Rep on the Provincial Council.


Beth actively shares her love for life and music with her family, friends and community. Both her sons are also active musically: Tyler plays in a local rock band and Trevor has received his Masters in Collaborative Piano from Western University and is now working toward his doctorate at University of Michigan.. Beth has played at church services since age 16 and currently plays in Sunday Services at South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church. She has also played for children’s cantata’s, weddings, funerals and for the residences of Nipissing Manor. She is the coordinator for North Bay’s Contemporary Showcase.
